Digestive System Menu Board
Project Overview:
You will complete the designated items within the menu board to learn more about the components of livestock digestive systems.
Directions:
1. Use the lesson and outside resources to complete each section of the menu board.
2. For each section of the menu, follow the directions below:
· Appetizer
- write the responses to each prompt in this section
- your instructor will have you share with a partner, group or the class
· Entrée
- choose one of the four items listed in this section to complete
· Side Dish
- choose two of the four items listed in this section to complete
· Dessert
- if time allows, complete any of the items listed in this section
3. Once completed, turn in your project according to your instructor’s directions.
Menu Board
Appetizer (everyone completes and shares)
· Define the digestive system
· List the functions of the digestive system
· Describe the three types of digestive systems and the animals of each system
· List the components of each digestive system
Entrée (choose one of these)
· Draw and label the three types of digestive systems, then compare and contrast
· Create a 3D model of a chosen digestive system
· Create a poster drawing of a human digestive system and a livestock digestive system, then compare and contrast
· Create a board or card game covering each digestive system
Side Dish (choose two of these)
· Describe the function of each part involved in the digestive process
· Draw the four compartments of a ruminant stomach and describe their function
· Create a model showcasing the structure of each compartment of the ruminant stomach
· Research and write about how each body part interacts to make a complete system
Dessert (optional)
· Research the types of microbes present in the digestive system
· List five interesting things you have learned about the digestive system in livestock
