Engineering Careers

 

Activity Overview:

You will compare current engineering employment opportunities and describe how they may lead to possible career pathways.

 

Directions:

1. Review the difference between the following roles:

·        Engineering Technician

·        Engineering Technologist

·        Engineer

 

2. Use the internet to locate current job opportunities for each of the careers listed above. Copy and paste or screenshot the job listings into one document.

 

3. Within each job listing, highlight duties or responsibilities unique to the specific engineering role.

 

4. For each job, research the next steps an individual might take to advance their career from an entry-level position.

 

5. Write down two possible career moves for each role and any additional training, education or certification which might be required.

·        For example, Engineering Technologist may move into a role as an engineer after taking additional classes to each a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field

 

6. Once completed, turn in your activity according to your instructor’s directions.
