Goal:
To demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship as it relates to the evolution of economies.
Description:
This lesson introduces students to entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship, and the role entrepreneurship plays in affecting the economy. The lesson explores the role of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs within the context of entrepreneurship. Students will also explore the different trends in entrepreneurship.
Objectives:
1. To define entrepreneurship, entrepreneur, intrapreneur, small business, medium business and large business.
2. To explore trends in entrepreneurship.
3. To evaluate the contribution of entrepreneurship to the economy.
4. To explain and research the societal impact and historical significance of entrepreneurship.

Essential Questions:
1. What are the trends in entrepreneurship?
2. What is the difference between entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship?
3. How does entrepreneurship change depending on the size of the business?
Step 1: Bell Ringer:
· Write the word “Entrepreneur” on the board or chart paper. Ask students to name an entrepreneur and then have them identify any innovations or inventions for which the entrepreneur is known. Have students classify the scale of work of the entrepreneur as affecting society on a global, national, regional or local level.
· If there are innovations, inventions or scope of the entrepreneur’s work which students cannot readily identify, consider saving the list for students to use as a launching point for their work on the Entrepreneur Profile Project.
Step 2: Distribute the Action Plan, Vocabulary Handout and Key Concepts.
· The Action Plan lays out a list of tasks for students to complete during the lesson.
· The Vocabulary Handout is a list of terms used throughout the lesson.
· The Key Concepts is an outline which identifies the main ideas presented in the lesson which students can fill in to aid in note-taking during the lesson.
Step 3: Show the Basics of Entrepreneurship video segment.
· This video is nine minutes long.
· Be sure to utilize the Key Concepts for this segment of the lesson.
Step 4: Administer the Basics of Entrepreneurship Check for Understanding.
· The check for understanding is a short review of the content presented in the segment.
Step 5: Exit Ticket:
· Have students break into small groups. Provide each group with a sheet of paper with the name of one entrepreneurship trend on the page. Have the group write a working definition for the trend and then have them provide at least one advantage and disadvantage of each trend in entrepreneurship.

· This video is eight minutes long.

Step 3: Administer the Impacts of Entrepreneurship Check for Understanding.
· The check for understanding is a short review of the content presented in the segment.
Step 4: Students should begin the Entrepreneur Profile Project.
· Students will write a biographical essay on an entrepreneur, detailing their motivations, goals and mission to define an entrepreneur. Students should also explain the contributions the entrepreneur’s innovations have made to society.
Step 5: Exit Ticket:
· Have students volunteer to present one fact of their research which they find interesting or surprising.

Step 1: Students should continue the Entrepreneur Profile Project.
· Students will write a biographical essay on an entrepreneur, detailing their motivations, goals and mission to define an entrepreneur. Students should also explain the contributions the entrepreneur’s innovations have made to society.
Step 2: Exit Ticket:
· Have students show their progress for the Entrepreneur Profile Project.

Entrepreneur Profile Project
Step 1: Bell Ringer:
· Write the word “Entrepreneur” on the board or chart paper. Ask students about their understanding of what an entrepreneur does and how their innovations have changed society.
Step 2: Administer the What is Entrepreneurship? Final Assessment.
· The assessment is a comprehensive assessment covering material throughout the entire lesson.
Step 3: Students should complete the Entrepreneur Profile Project.
· Students will write a biographical essay on an entrepreneur, detailing their motivations, goals and mission to define an entrepreneur. Students should also explain the contributions the entrepreneur’s innovations have made to society.
Step 4: Exit Ticket:
· Have students turn in the Entrepreneur Profile Project.
Entrepreneurship Profile
Students will write a biographical essay on an entrepreneur, detailing their motivations, goals and mission to define an entrepreneur. Students should also explain the contributions the entrepreneur’s innovations have made to society. The entrepreneur profile aims to familiarize students with the background and motivations of entrepreneurs.
Accommodations:
Allow pairs of students to complete different parts of the research, such as having one group work on the entrepreneur's background and another on their innovations.
Modifications:
Provide students with documents or links to information on entrepreneurs for reference.
Extension:
Ask students or a member of a group to research and obtain data which shows how the specific innovation contributed to the market segment in which the innovation resides.
